The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes is an immediate delight with beautifully open and expressive aromatics. The fruit displays exceptional clarity, depth, and subtlety, with a notable silkiness and elegance. Best enjoyed between 2019-2029.
The 2009 offerings from Laurent Ponsot were among the finest I've tasted. These wines are simply dazzling. Ponsot was one of the last to harvest in 2009, starting when most others had already completed. The fruit was fully destemmed and vinified in oak vats, then racked into barrels for malolactic fermentation, with no further rackings. Ponsot uses no new oak, with barrel ages ranging from 5 to 50 years. The range now includes eleven Grand Crus, making up 70% of the estate’s total production. While I typically recommend cellaring the top 2009s for at least 15 years, the use of synthetic plastic corks introduces uncertainty in their aging process. I tasted all the 2009s from barrels, where they had been aging since completing malolactic fermentation. (Wine Advocate, May 2011)
