The Cirillo 1850 Semillon originates from a historic vineyard in Light Pass, Barossa Valley, known as the world's oldest Semillon (Madeira) vineyard outside Madeira itself. Among the few remaining in Australia, it is classified as a Semillon due to its unique origin, not its regional heritage.
Harvested early, typically in mid to late January, the grapes boast high acidity. They are meticulously handpicked and basket pressed before undergoing tank fermentation, eschewing oak influence.
Displaying a remarkably pale green-yellow hue, nearly transparent, it exudes aromas of lifted lemongrass and clean mineral notes. Fruit-forward on the palate, it offers a lean, light structure and a crisp, acid-driven finish.
Balancing fruit and acidity flawlessly, this Semillon is both compelling for immediate enjoyment and promising for extended aging.
