An expressive and balanced white wine from Languedoc.
The Property:
Nestled in the heart of Languedoc, Domaine Gérard Bertrand reflects its founder's commitment to showcasing the richness of Southern France's terroir. With a history spanning decades, this estate is renowned for its expertise in crafting wines that powerfully and elegantly express the nuances of Languedoc's finest vineyards.
The Vineyard:
The 2019 Cigalus Blanc from Gérard Bertrand is an IGP Aude wine sourced from a vineyard benefiting from a particularly favorable Mediterranean climate. Managed biodynamically, this vineyard thrives on deep soils composed of sediment and lightly calcareous sandstone.
Vinification and Aging:
Hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, the grapes undergo pneumatic pressing upon arrival at the cellar. After light static settling, 70% of the juice is vinified in new barrels, while the remainder is fermented in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation occurs at controlled temperatures to preserve freshness and aroma integrity. The wine is aged in barrels for 7 to 8 months—until the spring equinox—with regular lees stirring.
Blend:
This 2019 Cigalus from Gérard Bertrand is a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier.
