Matured for 1 year in French oak puncheons of which 20% were new with a small portion of whole bunch included in the ferment. Deep dark red colour with black shaded edges and a dark red hue. Fragrant dark cherry and strawberry scents infused with violets fill the nostrils followed by anise, earth, subtle dried herbs and spicy cedar. Rich dark plum, anise and strawberry fruits are delivered with intensity and have an expansive supple feel. Toasty oak, earth, dried herbs and spice linger through the generous finish. Velvet smooth tannins with a long fleshy aftertaste. Drink over the next 4-5 years. Alc. 14%
Other Reviews Nice people at Luna Estate, doing nice things. So that’s nice. Here we have a wine from 1992 plantings, with a bit of whole bunch and 15% new oak. Cherry and plum, baking spice, coffee grounds and clay, and lively dried herb and green capsicum top note. It’s plush, a bit savoury, quite a fleshy feel in the mouth, rich cocoa tannin, a subtle dried orange peel bitterness, and crushed rock kind of thing happening on the finish. I like that it doesn’t feel too forced, nor trying too hard. Nice expression of vineyard here. A charmer. Drink 2021-2027. 94 points Gary Walsh The Wine Front
