The 2020 Lamella Shiraz is crafted from fruit sourced from the Angas family vineyard in Eden Valley (Hutton Vale Farm), with cuttings from the nearby Mt. Edelstone vineyard. Fermented with 100% whole bunches, this wine is the last to be picked, allowing the stems to fully lignify, as Dan Standish notes. The Lamella is both floral and intensely spicy, with a minerally, granitic character. It stands out as the most elegant wine in the lineup, thanks to the elevated vineyard and cooling acidity. This Shiraz offers a nuanced range of flavors, from shaley, rocky minerals to concentrated, pure fruit with herbal notes like fresh coriander and bay leaf. Spices like licorice, star anise, and allspice enhance the finish. Despite the challenging vintage conditions, the wine surprises with a galaxy of flavors and a pillowy texture, unfolding into a long, complex finish.
