VINEYARD
Strikingly beautiful at 350m above sea level, the vineyard sits on a steep north facing slope in the middle of the Ferguson Valley. Bush vines sprawl across the bare land and remain unirrigated, with fruit sitting just above the ground.
Due to the elevation and high winds the vineyard needs minimal sprays and there are no herbicides or pesticides used. Throughout the vineyard large granite rocks punctuate the gravelly loam top soil. There isn’t a vineyard we have seen that is anything like this and the resulting wine expression of that.
WINERY
We wanted to make an easier drinking red wine to be served chilled. With the same aromatic complexity as the ‘granite grenacheâ€?yet slightly easier drinking. More lunchtime than evening if you will. To that effect we whole bunch pressed a portion of the grenache to create a rose that immersed the whole bunches inside a closed fermenter. Fermenting whole bunches in a rose. A sort of underwater carbonic maceration. Naturally fermented, pumped over once a day and fermented cool to retain aroma with minimal interaction. The wine was then pressed into amphora and mature barrels where it rested for 11 months with lees stirring prior to bottling un-fined and un-filtered.
TASTE
Served chilled, Its delicate, elegant, perfumed and smooth. Flavours of cherry, campari, rhubarb and cranberries and forest floor.
