A tribute to Kym Teusner's grandfather Albert, the fruit for this wine is sourced from two old vine blocks in the northern Barossa Valley.
The warm, dry 70-year-old block in Ebenezer contributes density and strength, the other, a cooler, 50 year old site near Williamstown, provides the Albert elegance and fragrant lift.
Albert Shiraz is named after Kym Teusner's Grandfather, Albert Alfred Teusner, and is made from Barossa fruit from an old block at Ebenezer and another at Williamstown. Inky black in the glass. Ripe dark berry fruit and toasty oak with savoury spice lift. An iron fist in a velvet glove! Sweet and rich with masses of plummy fruit, deep yet velvety tannins, vanilla and coffee notes and plenty of oak on the decadent finish.
Critic tasting note: (2005 vintage) "Although it's not indicated on the front label, this is Shiraz, sourced from 60-year-old vines in the Ebenezer district and 90-year-old vines near Gomersal. It's Teusner's best wine, loaded with spice and savory notes that perfectly highlight the rich blackberry fruit. Not jammy or overblown, it has enough structure to suggest a drinking window from 2010020." - 92/100, Wine Enthusiast
